Onnen arkkitehtuuri

De Bottoniin kirja on kirja filosofian ja arkkitehtuurin risteyskohdasta, oivalluksia siitä, miten tarpeemme ja halumme manifestoivat itseään ympäristössä.

Siksi haluan valita ympärilleni omasta mielestäni kauniita asioita, haluan vaikuttaa siihen miltä minusta kotona tuntuu. Kotonani ei ole koskaan likaista tai sotkuista, haluan valita ympärilleni ymmärryksen, tasapainon, sekulaarin väljyyden. Kotoilu tuntuu muutaman baaritiskillä vietetyn vuoden jälkeen hyvältä.

Ja mitä kaikkea tämä asunto on nähnyt. Helteessä parvekkeen kaiteen yli roikkuvia varpaita, lattialla äänen luettuja runoja ja esseitä, paljon kolisevaa aamukahvinkeittoa, myöhäisiä kotiintuloja, värikkäitä tekstiilejä -  ei tarvitse odottaa auringonnousua, jos valitsee oranssit verhot. Paljon rauhaa, tilaa ja väljyyttä - the house gives signs of enjoying the loose space, just like I do. Se ottaa minut ystävällisesti vastaan.
